Nick is an economist with a comprehensive understanding of the electricity and gas markets and has more than 20 years of experience. He has extensive knowledge of various aspects of the energy sector including the formulation of policy and strategy; economic regulation and pricing; market design and institutional restructuring; and the appraisal and development of markets and projects. He has been based in Australia, Greece and the UK, and has worked with interdisciplinary and multicultural teams in multiple countries.
Over the course of his career, Nick has particularly focused on regulatory issues, energy pricing and tariffs, and the assessment of energy projects and markets. He was a member of the teams that undertook the formative work for the establishment and operation of modern regulatory principles and practices in the Australian electricity, gas and water sectors during the 1990s and early 2000s. He was also an integral member of the team that established the framework for electricity competition in the Australian national electricity market.
While based in the UK and Europe, he has undertaken a series of energy market projects and feasibility studies, while continuing to work on market design, pricing and regulatory issues, both within and outside the EU. In recent years, Nick has:
